HAMK conducts research testing on Ripple smart sleeves with ROUNDS Future
The juniors got an exciting new experience under their belt during their weekly training session.

HΓ€me University of Applied Sciences (HAMK) visited the ROUNDS office in Tampere earlier this week to conduct research and testing on their Ripple smart sleeves. Their “Smart Wearables for Team Strengthening” -project involves developing smart wearables that support team activities and performance in esports and the defense industry. The goal is to commercialize prototypes and create a foundation for establishing a new growth company.
From the lineup of HAMK’s smart sleeves, the Ripple is a prototype product our ROUNDS Future roster got to test themselves at our Tampere office. Its purpose is to create a caressing motion on the skin that can be useful for calming the player down between rounds, or to coordinate their breathing, for example. Another, further developed, product is their Spiritus Ludi smart sleeve, for which even ROUNDS CEO Jussi Kallioniemi is a member of its steering committee. With Spiritus Ludi, the team’s players and coach can send touches, convey emotion and cheer each other on, bringing the same feeling to games played at home as after a round won in a LAN tournament or when you want to focus during a break. In training, it’s possible to agree to some communication methods, such as sending touches while eliminated, to keep the voice chat silent.
ROUNDS Future was a really nice group and they were the most excellent for testing as the test is quite long and a bit heavy – all participants kept a good attitude! In addition to the further development of the prototype, a scientific publication will also be made about the testing processes. Watching from the sidelines, the team’s actions all seemed really professional, goal-oriented and with an excellent atmosphere! I believe that training in the same space will give the team a lot of added value for future games as they gain experience.

ROUNDS is absolutely interested in being involved and assisting in such research work. This way we create new experiences for our up-and-coming talented juniors, but also do it in an actually meaningful way through collaboration. More to come!
